He was predeceased by: his parents, Ira Lee Tatum and Willie Mae Varner Tatum; his brothers, Edward Tatum, Ernest Lee Tatum, George Tatum and Howard Tatum; and his sons-in-law, Charlie McCain and Larry Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Maples Tatum of Oxford; his daughters, Lynda McCain of Taylor, MS, Sherry Tatum of Oxford and Phyllis Tatum Smith of Oxford; and his grandchildren, Misty Anderson (Gene) of Oxford, Becky Moorehead (Chris) of Oxford, Shanita Slider (Charles) of Clarksville, TN, Brandee Wheeler (Drew) of New Albany, MS, Kady Smith of Oxford, Jayson Greene (Aleshia) of Huntsville, AL, Jarrell Greene of Oxford, Derek Hunter (Morgan) of Oxford and Cody Hunter (Crystal) of Oxford. He is also survived by 20 great grandchildren.
