He was predeceased by: his mother Carrie DeShazo; his wife Luna Mayfield "Cookie" Metts; his siblings, Zola Fudge, Thelma Metts, Gladye Fudge, Sybil Hill, Erbie Metts, Hardy Metts, Malcolm Metts, Karl Metts and Lloyd Metts; and his son-in-law Steve McNeely.
He is survived by: his children, Suzanne McNeely of Decatur, AL, Marsha Thomas of Decatur, AL, Melinda Smith (Alan) of Oxford, MS, Amy Minford (Bob) of Collierville, TN and Glenn Metts of Jackson, TN; and his grandchildren, Travis Sammons, Kim Sammons, Ryan Minford, Alex Minford, Kevin Smith, Kathy Harrington, Nathan Smith, Adam McNeely, Elise McNeely, Daphne Ellis-Floyd and Laura Lowder. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
