She was predeceased by: her son Walter A. Hughes; her parents, Ollie P. Simpson and Bertha Caston Simpson; and her siblings, Earl Simpson, Jewell Simpson, Reba Simpson, Burnell Simpson, Geneva Varnado, Mary Alice Blackwell and Ollie Dell Gore.
She is survived by: her sons, John R. Hughes and Alex Hughes (Pat); her grandchildren, Christine E., John R. Jr., Tracy M., Alyssa C. and Alex P. Jr.; and her brother Bobby Ray Simpson. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren.
