He was predeceased by: his parents, A. P. Wilson and Blanche Wilson; and his siblings, Albert Wilson (Buddy), Eugene Wilson, Glenn Wilson and Marjorie Spitzberg.
He is survived by: his wife Geri; his children, Carey Weissbeck (Scott), Leslie Lenser (Kurt), Stacey Willis (Greg) and Chris (Celeste); his brother Jack Wilson (Lyllis Ann); and his siblings-in-law, Bill, Margi Ritter, Ed and Kathy Kane. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 25th 2025 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the Getwell Church (7875 Getwell Rd, Southaven, MS 38672). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 25th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Getwell Road or the charity of your choice. And in keeping with Mel's sense of humor and loyalty to Ole Miss, any State fans can direct their gifts to the University of Mississippi NIL fund in his honor.
