He was predeceased by: his parents, Leslie John Bates and Bessie Turner Bates; and his brother Leslie John "Sonny" Bates, Jr.. He is survived by: his children, Lisa Stone and Rayburn Bates, Jr. (Christi K. Bates); his grandson William Stone; and his brother Gerald Bates.
