He was predeceased by: his parents, Victor Gale Waites and Leila May Evans. He is survived by: his son Casey Joe Waites; his wife Ruth Miley Waites; his son Rusty; his daughter-in-law Angie Waites; and his granddaughters, Alexia and Halle Waites. He is also survived by in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
He was named Assistant Coach of the Year by the Gulf Coast Chapter National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 2003.
