He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Stephens and Vercie Stephens; his sisters, Ina Pearl Mckenzie and Ava Mearle Graham; and his wife Patricia Wilson Stephens.

He is survived by: his son Michael Stephens; his stepson Charles Edwards; his grandchildren, Hazelmarie Holifield, Deborah Stabler and Leo Holifield; and his siblings, Charles Stephens (Raymond) and Alpha Wilson. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
