He is survived by: his mother Betty Lou Basil Merritt; his children, Vickie Pruett, Lisa Cook (Marty), Tabitha Martin (Tony), Marty Merritt (Shelly) and Jerry Clay Merritt, Jr. (Crystal); and his siblings, Betty Ann Pickens and Guy Philip Merritt. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
