He was predeceased by: his parents, Elbert Rex Payton and Cora Lee White Payton; his brother Denver Payton; his wife Vivian Maxcine Morace Payton; and his son Michael Rex Payton.

He is survived by: his cousins, Lennie Payton Lofton, Daniel, Erica Bumgarner of Karlynn, D. J. and Bella Bumgarner. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
