He is survived by: his children, Abigail Martone (Patrick Martone) and John Thomas Gates; his grandchildren, Lathan and Finley Martone; his mother Erlene Weldon of Hattiesburg, MS; his stepmother Bobbie Gates of Forest Park; his siblings, Jerry Gates (Cheryl Gates) of Charlotte, NC, Jim Gates (Gladys Gates) of Troy, AL, Joe Gates (Debra Gates) of Chattanooga, TN and Donna Davis (Scott Davis) of Stockbridge, GA; his stepsiblings, Tamara Bacon of Black Mountain, NC and F. Edwin Weldon IV (Penny Weldon) of Knoxville, TN; his aunt Catherine Griffing of Gulfport, MS; and his nieces and nephews, Chris Gates, David Gates, Eric Way, Brian Way, Brandy Powell and Carla Gates.
