He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary McHenry Wade and James William Wade of Monroe, Louisiana.. He is survived by: his significant other Michael Simmons of Baton Rouge; his brother Carlton Hunt Wade (Jill Bartlett Wade) of Austin, Texas; his nephew William Hunt Wade; and his niece Mary Bartlett Wade. He is also survived by many cousins and close friends.
In 2019, The Historic Natchez Foundation awarded James the George and Ethel Kelly Preservation Award for his work in restoring the Casey Mallory Townhouse.
