She was predeceased by: her parents, Joe R. Higgins and Hattie Ree Higgins (Nichols); her husband Robbie Gates; and her siblings, Larry Higgins and Merle Higgins Thornton.

She is survived by: her daughters, Carrie Brown (Mark), Amanda Gates and Kimberly Berry (Jason); and her brother Charlie Higgins. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
