He was predeceased by: his wife Melba; his sons, Donald Woodrow Byars (Evelyn Christina) and John Robert Byars, II; and his siblings, Mildred Porter, Margaret Brown, Melba Fortner and Charles Carlisle.
He is survived by: his son Shawn Byars (Victoria); his daughter-in-law Heidi Zweifel-Byars; his grandchildren, John Robert Byars, III (Clarrissa) and Emily Byars Williams (Micheal); his great grandchildren, Kathryn Cheyenne and Emma Renae Byars; his goddaughters, Dr. Ashley Allred and Amber Synesael; and his brother Terry Byars.
