He was predeceased by: his parents, Hezzie Arthur Wilks and Lola Broom Wilks; and his siblings, Ronnie Wilks, Leffie "Mann" Wilks, Peggy Howard and Helen Olier.

He is survived by: his wife Annette Wilks; his sons, Johnny Wilks (Robin) and Michael Wilks (Towana); his grandchildren, Kaylee Jefferson (Al), Konner Renee Wilks and Kristin Shearer; and his siblings, H. A. Wilks, Jr. (Diane) and Jimmie Sue Hanning. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
