He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Black and Laura Lee Brown Black; his wife Helen Massey Smith Black; his siblings, Randolph Black, Thelma Black and Mae Black; his children, Tim Smith, Johnny Smith, Tommy Smith and Carol Purvis; and his grandchildren, Steve Smith and Rachel Smith.
He is survived by: his daughter Billie Joan Black; his grandchildren, John JJ (Purvis, Jr.), Wendi Purvis Hudson, Clint Smith (Susan), Matt Smith (Jennifer), Timothy Michael Smith (Sedonia), Kimberly Reedy, Matthew Smith, Michelle, Melissa and Chris Myers; his great grandchildren, Nicole Purvis, Daigen Meek (Tori), Loren Waggoner, Macy Brooke Hudson Wade, Turner Smith, Henry Smith, Elle Smith, Jackson Smith, Madilyn, Lindsey Smith Johnson (Sam), Annah Smith, Myka Smith, Kaiden Smith, Timothy Smith, Makayla Reedy, Matthias Reedy and Raivah Reedy; and his great great grandchildren, J. P. Meek and Gracyn Meek.
Visitation was held on Sunday, January 19th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Morton Church of Christ (59 Jackie St, Morton, MS 39117). A funeral service was held on Sunday, January 19th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location.
