He was predeceased by: his wife Bertha Griffin Colyer; his parents, Frank Colyer and Mary Colyer; and his siblings, Donald "Donny" Colyer, David Colyer and Mary Bell.

He is survived by: his daughter Sandra Champion (Tom); his grandchildren, Chelsi Dennis and Caleb Champion; his great grandchildren, Gracelyn, McKenzie and Jayonna Carter; and his brother James Colyer (Ruby).
