He was predeceased by: his wife Clara Dean Ligon Carter; his parents, Nathan B. Carter, Sr. and Mary Ellen Reeves Carter; and his brothers, R. Roland Carter, Gary G. Carter and James H. Carter.
He is survived by: his children, Nate (Pam) of Boca Raton, FL., Mark (Renee) of Meridian, MS., Tim (Sandra) of St. Augustine, FL., Tom (Jennifer) of Carriere, MS. and Linda Haugen of Argyle, MN.; his brother Guy Carter (Marsha); his sisters-in-law, Patti Carter and Terri Carter; his grandsons, Nathan Carter, IV, Jon Carter, Jace Carter, T. J. Carter, Cole Carter, Daniel Haugen and Matthew Haugen; and his nephews, Tony Ligon, Damon Ligon, Barry Ligon, Jason Ligon and Wade Ligon. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
