He was predeceased by: his parents, Edgar Mathis and Iva Mathis; and his brothers, Tommy Mathis and R. D. Mathis. He is survived by: his wife Dona Mathis; his children, Keith Mathis (Kathy), Todd Mathis (Debbie), Stacey Mathis and Jennifer Brown; his grandchildren, Jordan Mathis (Melissa), Madison Barrett (Chris), Collin Winsbrook (Shelby), Sydney Forman (Ty), Jake Brown, Noah Mathis (Kylie) and Allison Brown; his great grandchildren, Nora Barrett, Charlotte Barrett, Luca Mathis, Anderson Barrett and Willow Winsbrook; and his brothers, Richard Mathis (Barbara) and Sammy Mathis (Teresa). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery fund.
