He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence "Pop" Layton and Loree Layton (Rankin); his wife Jane Ellen Crabdree Layton; and his brother John Howard Layton. He is survived by: his children, Joseph Thomas Layton, Jr. (Diane), Christopher John Layton (Christen), Ellen Virginia Layton Taylor (Alex) and Leah Loree Layton. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Monday, January 6th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Tutor Funeral Home - Mendenhall (3035 Simpson Hwy 13, Mendenhall, MS 39114). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 7th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Mendenhall (301 N East St, Mendenhall, MS 39114).
