He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Root and Mary Root; and his son Matthew. He is survived by: his wife Jo Ann Cook; his son Steve; his daughters-in-law, Patricia Root Lawrence and Kimberly Root; his sister Linda De La Rosa; his grandchildren, Steven "Mark" Jr., Mary Claire Root and Addison Root; his cousins, Shirley Raskin, Alecia Ramsey and Danielle Brosofski; his niece Nichole Schmit (Jessie); his nephew Phillip De La Rosa (Kelly); and his caregiver Marissa.
