Edward Collins Jr. Obituary

We are sad to announce that on April 10, 2021, at the age of 90, Edward Collins Jr. of McComb, Mississippi passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward McDaniel Collins Sr. (Peggy) and Domer Willoughby; and his granddaughter Whitney. He is survived by: his wife Peggy; his sons, Marc (Ellen), David (Suzy) and John (Beth); and his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Stephen, Nicolas, Andrew, Cameron, Emily and Kevin. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the general scholarship fund for Millsaps College in his name.

“I well remember President Collins at Millsaps College. He provided leadership during a period of rapid change in the college, Jackson and the nation. In 1968 I was one of five enrolled African-American freshmen students. Our numbers increased each year. A couple of years after my 1972 graduation we crossed paths in the airport in Jackson. I was pleased that he recognized me.”
