She was predeceased by: her parents, Charles Edward Dunaway Sr. and Annie Francis Bateman Dunaway; and her husband Nathaniel P. Brister. She is survived by: her daughter Latasha M. Haley; her siblings, Charles Edward Dunaway Jr. (Theresa), Jeffrey Dale Dunaway, Gwendolyn A. Dunnaway and Marcie Joy Westmoreland; her grandchildren, Tristen A. Haley and Hulett C. Haley; her former husband Richard E. Phelps; and her close friend Pete Dearing. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
