He was predeceased by: his parents, Voyd Carpenter and Annie Mae Pinkleton Carpenter; his son Christopher Scott Carpenter; and his brother V. W. Carpenter, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Thelma Sells Carpenter; his daughter Linda Carpenter Letson (Jerry); and his grandchildren, Jared Letson (Lindsay), Leah Letson Pence (Grant) and Aaryn Letson.
