It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Doris Higginbotham Vernon of Macon, Mississippi, who passed away on November 18, 2022, at the age of 96, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her father Albert Lenton; her husband William Vernon; her sisters, Katherine Moore, Sally Walker and Clytee Kinard; her stepmother Grace Weaver Higginbotham; and her stepsister Ruth Haggard.
She is survived by: her children, Evelyn Smith (Richard) of West Point, MS and Moses Vernon (Judy) of Oxford, MS; her sister Dean Vandevender of Preston, MS; her grandchildren, Amy Buckley (Bob), Shannon Greenan (Daryl), Dee Bussanmas (Scott), Lee Dugan (James) and William Vernon; her great grandchildren, Chantz Smith (Samantha), Jake Smith, Willa Grace Greenam, Taylor Murphree (Kadon), Marley Perkins, Sarah Paige Perkins, Charlie Perkins, Maggie Dugan, Gracie Dugan and Jace Dugan; and her great great grandchildren, Kase Murphree, Aidan Jacob Smith and Damon Frances Smith. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
