He was predeceased by: his parents, J. B. Strickland and Catherine Lavera Strickland; his parents-in-law, Rodella Thompson and Thurman Thompson; and his brother-in-law Thurman Thompson, Jr..

He is survived by: his wife Margie Strickland of Lumberton; his children, Melanie Barth of Olympia, WA, Jacob Strickland (Terri) of Biloxi and Joseph Strickland (Morgan) of Flora; his grandchildren, Micah Walley (Brianna), Cela Neldon, Ali Strickland, Joshua Strickland and Emma Strickland; his siblings, Dale Strickland (Betty) of Laurel, Vicky Cheeks (Tom) of Ellisville and Robin Moffett (Anthony) of Laurel; his brothers-in-law, David Thompson (Diane) of Seminary and Danny Thompson (Cindy) of Collins; and his pets, Sadie and Stella. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
