He was predeceased by: his sisters, Lucille Byrd and Doris Strickland; and his wife Lula Charlene Pilgrim. He is survived by: his children, David Pilgrim, Janie Adcock, Phillip Pilgrim (Shirley), Mike Pilgrim (Jo), Elizabeth Golden (Jim) and John Pilgrim (Kelli). He is also survived by his mother, several aunts, both of his sisters, and a first cousin.
