He was predeceased by: his wife Esther Vee Patterson Dykes; his parents, Annie Mae Jennings Dykes and John Gordon Dykes; his siblings, Grady Dykes, Cecil Ray Dykes, A. V. Dykes Hyatt (Coy), Billie Jean Dykes Smith (Jerry), Dorothy Dykes Hyatt (Houston) and Shirley Mae Dykes Willard (Pharoah); and his parents-in-law, Eula Vee Vice Patterson and Hull "Buster" Patterson.

He is survived by: his sons, Herman Dykes, Jr. (Karen), Kelvin Dykes (Sharri), Kerry Dykes (Karen) and Keith Dykes (Becky); his siblings, Mary Ruby Dykes Crawford (Jack), Johnny Ray Dykes, Sr. (Rita) and Bobbie "Sue" Dykes Butler (Thomas); his grandsons, Austin Dykes, Adam Dykes, Jarrod Dykes, Brayden Dykes, Grant Dykes, Collin Dykes and Jonathon Dueitt; and his great grandchildren, Carter Dykes, Caleb Dykes, Case Dykes, Greyson Dykes, Sebastion Dykes, Liam Kilpatrick, Conner Kilpatrick, Triston Monkress, Tyler Dueitt, Davey Dueitt, Jaycen Davis, Layton Owenby, Brason Owenby, Jase Owenby, Beckett Owenby and Andin Bolen. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
