He was predeceased by: his mother Azzie Swanigan; his stepmother Earlean Sherrod Swanigan; his son Shandarill Swanigan; and his brother Willie Swanigan. He is survived by: his wife Mary Alice Swanigan; his father Willie Lee Swanigan; his children, Lester K. Swanigan of Jacksonville, FL., Sherry Searcy of Detroit, MI. and Michelle Harden of Carthage, MS.; and his siblings, Arlinda Swanigan Edwards (Johnny), Dorothy Johnson (Authur) of Crawford, MS., Valerie Swanigan, Evonne Triplett (Jimmy), Toni Spann, Regina Spann, Paris Swanigan (Eyvonne), Larry Swanigan (Mary), Carl Swanigan (Rosaland), Jeffery Gleen, James Vaughn, Joel Frazier and Isiah Branch (Leona). He is also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
