It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joseph Leon Merritt (Louisville, Mississippi), who passed away on January 13, 2020, at the age of 100, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his wife Gladys Taylor Merritt; and his siblings, Thomas Merritt, Kline Merritt, Lamar Whatley, Howard Harrod, Lurlene Josey, Lena Heflin and Mabel Harrod.
He is survived by: his children, Joe Merritt (Diana) of Dallas, Texas and Carol Higginbotham (Robert) of Louisville; his sister Bertha Vickers; his grandchildren, Megan Thomas (Bob), Emma Teague (Wesley), Josh McNeill, J. D. McNeill (Katelin), Julee Watkins (Bennie Ray) and Kiel Higginbotham (Lara); and his great grandchildren, Maci McNeill, Maggie McNeill, Tara Thomas, Joseph Thomas, Jett Higginbotham and Lake Higginbotham. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
