He was predeceased by: his father Walter H. Hurt, III. He is survived by: his wife Kim Hurt; his mother Jewel Hurt; his children, Erin Cooke of Mobile, AL and Cecelia Thomas of Gainsville, FL; and his grandchildren, Luke Cooke, Nora Cooke and Gabriel Cooke.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Association.
