He was predeceased by: his parents, Leroy Bates and Rosa Lee Horton; and his sisters, Darlene Horton and Betty Jean Houston. He is survived by: his wife Joyce Covington Bates; his children, Juareck Bates (Tiffany) and Lukatha Bates; his siblings, Howard Butler (Clara), Paul Allen, Bessie Martin (Joshua) and Clara Hartford (Nathaniel); his granddaughter Keitshal Alexander; and his great grandchild Rakeem Johnson, Jr.. He is also survived by seven sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 22nd 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Chapel of Dennis Funeral Home (1812 Louisiana Ave, New Orleans, LA 70115). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 23rd 2024 at 11:00 AM at the New Zion Baptist Church (5699 Bennett Rd, Liberty, MS 39645).
