He was predeceased by: his parents, Mark A. Melancon and Hessie O'Donald Melancon; his wife Lillie Rannefeld Melancon; his daughters, Sheryl Melancon and Julie Melancon Howell; and his siblings, Mark "Tony" Melancon, Betty Morgan and Ellen Broussard.
He is survived by: his children, Willie Melancon (Karen), Darrell Melancon (Susan), Robert Melancon Jr. (Gloria), Michael Melancon (Patty), Kurt Melancon and Beverly A. Revels (Michael); and his sister Ann Bodmer. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, twenty six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren with numerous nieces and nephews.
