He was predeceased by: his parents, James Brooks and Gladys Larimore Brooks; and his son-in-law Mike Moore. He is survived by: his wife Allie Rae Brooks; his children, Becky Brooks Moore, Donald Ray Brooks Jr. and Stephanie McDaniel (Dicky); his grandchildren, Kyle Brooks, Tate McDaniel and Courtney Moore Sharp; his great grandchildren, Scarlett Sharp, Brody Brooks and Lane Brooks; his sister Pauline Wilkinson; and his pet Trey.
