He was predeceased by: his parents, Percy Mills and Ollie Daniels; his stepfather W. O. Daniels; his sisters, Jo Ann White and Betty Sharmin; his son Lamar Mills; and his stepson Alan Gossett.
He is survived by: his wife Shelba Mills; his children, Michelle Mills and James Edwin Mills, Jr. (Sherry); his stepchildren, Sharon Moore (Keith), Sheryl Gossett and Terry Gossett; and his grandchildren, Barry Murphy, Jr., Chlee Lisi (Nick) and Justin Gossett (Heather). He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
