Norman Shiyou Obituary
Surrounded by his family-his wife of 38 years, Carol Patton Shiyou; his son, Nicholas Joseph Shiyou; and his granddaughter, Madalyn J. Shiyou-Norman Joseph Shiyou of Kiln passed from this earth on Sunday, December 24, 2017, to join his Heavenly Father. One of ten children (Michael Shiyou, Edward Shiyou, Dolphus Shiyou, Eldridge (Tody) Shiyou, Ronald Shiyou, Ruth Summers, Marie Storey, Evon Shiyou, Beverly Necaise, and his twin Norbert J. Shiyou), he was born March, 24, 1950 in Bay St. Louis, where he grew up.
His parents, Crayton A. Shiyou and Lola Page Shiyou instilled a strong work ethic, which continued throughout his life. At the age of 14, he became working with T.L. James Construction in Bay St. Louis. Later, he left for Lagos, W Africa, where he worked for ten years for McDermott Engineering in New Orleans, LA. Eventually, he took a job with OPI (Overseas Pipeline International) in the Middle East (Bahrain, Dubai, Saudi Arabia).
In 1998 he returned to the States, supposedly to retire. A man of humble beginnings, Mr. Shiyou-goal oriented and a continued desire for success-envisioned transforming an 'old broom factory' into an apartment complex, amid many guffaws. Nevertheless, he soon followed by building numerous houses in Hancock and Harrison counties.
Thus began his second career as sole proprietor of J (Jeff) and J (Josh) Rentals. A Master Mason of lodge 0429, self-educated, and a world traveler, he never met a stranger. Moreover, he was a kind and generous man, who helped numerous family members, friends, and strangers as well. He is preceded in death by his son, Norman Jeffrey Shiyou.
He will be sorely missed by a myriad of friends and family. A funeral service will be held at 3:00PM on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 9113 Kiln Delisle Rd, Pass Christian. A visitation will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017at 2:00PM until service time at the funeral home. A burial will follow the service at Patton Cemetery in Saucier.
