He was predeceased by: his parents, George Truett Smith and Ella Mae Walker Smith. He is survived by: his wife Mamie G Kinneson Smith; his children, Walter B. "Bo" Smith Jr. (Shannon), Neill Patrick Smith (Bliss), Sam Goad (Maggie) and Jo Claire Yeter (Dago Navarro); and his brothers, James Truett Smith (Betty) and Steve Dale Smith (Sheila). He is also survived by six grandchildren.
