It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of John Whitner Young of Iuka, Mississippi, born in Oxford, Mississippi, who passed away on March 31, 2025, at the age of 63, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Bessie Mae Young Hayes and John Henry Young, Jr.; his grandparents, Raymer "Mama Whit" Wilson, John Whitner "Daddy Whit" Wilson, Linnie Young and John Henry Young, Sr.; and his cousin Mike Wilson.
He is survived by: his daughter Whitney Young Works (Garrett); his stepson Jay Lambert; and his grandson Bennett Hayes Works. He is also survived by other family members and friends.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 2nd 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Thursday, April 3rd 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Calendar Iuka Baptist Church (105 W Eastport St, Iuka, MS 38852). A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 3rd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
Memorials may be made in John's honor to the Tishomingo County Historical Society.
