He was predeceased by: his parents, H. C. "Joe" Tarver and Birdie Johnson Tarver; his wife Anita Tarver; and his daughter Donna Tarver. He is survived by: his sons, Chris Tarver (Becky) of Leland and Mark Tarver of Leland; his stepson Brad Fowler (Cindy) of Inverness; his daughters, Denise Etherton (Cecil) of Section and Kimberly Debo (Jay) of Carrollton; and his brothers, Joe Tarver of Florence and Hilton Tarver (Glenda) of Shaw. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
