Wanda L. Upchurch Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Wanda L. Upchurch of Horn Lake, Mississippi, who passed away on December 15, 2021 at the age of 96. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
Wanda Lund Upchurch, 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 15th, 2021.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Bertis (Bert) Upchurch; her parents Miles Romney Lund (who preferred to be called Jack) and Inez Maude Lund King; her siblings Arnold Lund, Lou Bland, and Jack Lund; and a grandson, Randy Ahland.
Wanda was born in St George, Utah, and grew up out West, graduating from Dixie State University in St. George. She met her husband-to-be Bert at a USO Show while he was in the Army. They were married in Geneva, Nebraska in 1944 and eventually settled in Missouri following his serving in World War II. After moving to Tennessee in the early sixties, they moved to Mississippi in the nineties where they would remain. They were to celebrate sixty years of marriage in May of 2004, however Bert passed away just two weeks before their Anniversary date.
Wanda leaves behind a daughter; Nancy Zweifel with Terry of Horn Lake, Mississippi, and two sons; Michael Upchurch with Beth of Horn Lake, and Robert (Bob) Upchurch with Kathy of Hernando, Mississippi. Wanda had eleven Grandchildren, fourteen Great Grandchildren, three Great-Great Grandchildren, and an abundance of Nieces, Nephews and friends.
Throughout her life Wanda worked in Finance and Accounting, eventually working for Mapco Refinery in Memphis as a Bookkeeper, where she retired after 25 years of service.
At the time of her death, Wanda was a resident of Wesley Meadows Retirement Home in Hernando, Mississippi. She was a former member of Whitehaven Assembly of God, Evangel Church, and Oak Forest Church in Southaven, faithfully attending church throughout her life, always volunteering wherever she and Bert attended.
There will be a private graveside service for Immediate Family Members at Forest Hill South in Memphis, Tennessee.
