He is survived by: his children, Joseph Courtney Sr. of Smith Grove, KY, Margaret Lloyd of Collierville, TN, Sherry Herman of Nashville, TN and Renea Russell of Guthrie, OK; and his sister Gloria "Sissy" Nix of Bartlett, TN. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren.
