He was predeceased by: his son Bruce Dawson; his parents, Richard L. Dawson and Bessie Dawson; and his siblings, Dot Myers, Ann Carlisle, Thelma Bain and Kenneth Dawson.

He is survived by: his wife Kay Johnson Dawson of Hernando; his daughter-in-law Anna Kathryn Dawson of Brandon, MS; and his grandchildren, Isabel Virginia Dawson of Brandon and Carter Savage Dawson of Brandon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Hernando.
