He is survived by: his wife Elaine Riffe of Lake Cormorant; his children, Tish Hunt (Lawrence) of Nesbit and Bill Riffe (DeeDee) of Southaven; his mother Carolyn Riffe of Hernando; and his grandchildren, John Ellis Hunt, Hudson Hunt and Branden Holly.

“I wanted to say how much I loved my cousin, Mel, with all my heart. I feel horrible that I'd chosen to let my relatives contact me, so I wouldn't be in the way, only to find that he'd been sick and I didn't know how badly he was afflicted. He was the one person, besides my grandfather, whom I knew loved me for who I am. There's a reason why I was gone so long. It was valid then, as it is once again.
