He was predeceased by: his wife Christina Breland Howell; and his parents, Curtis Lafayette Howell and Willie Mae Bullock Howell. He is survived by: his son Derrek Lafayette Howell of Hattiesburg, MS. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
