“Sad to hear that a great man has passed. I would like you, his family, and friends, to know that he made a huge difference to me almost 50 years ago. As a young newly wed, he hired me as an assistant. I had had a year of nursing school, was broke, and helping support my husband who was a student at Southern. He taught me so much, and was always generous. I worked for him three years, and will always be grateful to him. I eventually finished school and worked as an RN. Dorothy Phelps”
