He is survived by: his children, Jay Hughes III, Christopher Lewis Hughes and Meg Hughes Cummings; his grandchildren, Georgia Cummings, Harrison Hughes, Sadie Cummings and Kaylee Hughes; his parents, Jim Hughes and Patsy Hughes; and his sisters, Trish Brinson, Carol Pindel and Buddy Thornsberry. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
