He is survived by: his wife Opal Townsend of Hattiesburg; his sons, Brooks Townsend (Molly) of Hattiesburg, Ted Townsend (Cindi) of Hattiesburg and Hugh Townsend (Linda) of Hattiesburg; his grandchildren, Noel Townsend, Jason Townsend (Virginia), Clayton Townsend, Wesley Townsend, Devin Townsend, Amy Townsend, Kaleigh Laird (Devon) and Traci Williams (Chris); his great grandchildren, Sean, Pierce, Melody, Emily, Jack, Tucker and Tyler; and his siblings, James E. Townsend and Ondean Harris.
