It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ernestine Deloris Hughes (Gulfport, Mississippi), who passed away on June 10, 2023, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Eula Pearl Powe (Charlie) and Ernest F. Hayes (Doretha); her children, Jeanetta Story and Charles Hughes; and her granddaughters, Vanessa Hughes and Natasha Osburn.
She is survived by: her sister Rose Marie; her former husband Jerome Chaney, Sr.; her husband Preston William Hughes, Jr.; her children, Jerome Chaney, Jr., L. Denise Posey, Myrna Andrews (Curtis), Andrew Hughes, Lloyd Hughes, Bobby Lee Hughes, Linda Hughes Taylor (Russell), Vaness Hughes, Ernest Hughes (Monica) and Preston Hughes (LaToya); and her friend Ann Jenkins Webb. She is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her generosity extended far and wide as she could always be counted on to donate to honorable causes and contribute whatever she could whenever called on by family and friends.
