He was predeceased by: his parents, Earnest V. Carter and Margaret Winstead Carter; his stepson Leonard; and his brothers, Sonny and Thomas.
He is survived by: his wife Lovie Carter; his children, Jimmie Edward Carter and Karen Michelle Sebren; his stepchildren, Glen Allen Porter and Sharon Porter; and his siblings, Joyce Moore, Doris Turner and Jerry Carter. He is also survived by five grandchildren.
