She was predeceased by: her parents, Spinks Rufus Purser and Mildred Marie Johnson Purser; her son Edward Johnston, Jr.; and her siblings, James, Paul, Rufus, Daniel, Joseph Purser, Ann Haston and Faye Keister.

She is survived by: her daughters, Lisa Decker (David) of Leland and Sandra Tharp (Blan) of Greenville; and her grandchildren, April Humphrey (Daniel), Ashley Keith (Brandon), Angela Lowther, Leslie Oswalt (Jason), Leah Spencer (Chris), William Tharp (Kristin) and Wesley Tharp. She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren.
