He was predeceased by: his parents, Zeke Petty and Rocky Petty; his son Steven Deron Petty; his son-in-law Dwight H. Burrow, Jr.; and his siblings, Mickey Petty, Felton Petty and Mavis Trowell.
He is survived by: his wife Shelby Jean Parr Petty; his children, Richard "Smokey" Petty (Christine) and Pam Petty Burrow; his sister Linda Rawls (Jimmy); his grandchildren, Desha, Steven (Cristen), Samantha, Nikki, Chelsey (Jordy), Lindsey Jenna (Jeffrey), Taylor (Erica), Trey and Lauren; and his great grandchildren, Austin, Courtney, Andrea, Hadley, Elliette, Ridley, Max, Brent, Maverick, Kalen, Tony and Katea.
